Ode to a Bubble Bath

- By Brittany Olson

Isn't it interesting how little experiences can take you away to another dimension
Where fantasy becomes the here and now and real life is a distant memory?
My head dipped into the warm water
And my ears filled with the sound of wet nothingness
Making me shudder and laugh out loud in my head.

Suddenly I was in a desert of water
A huge ocean.
My fish fingers crept into my fanning seaweed hair
Flitting in and out and in and out and one more time in and out.
My legs were no longer separated
Glued together with scales.

I knock against the ship.
It creaks in mild indignation.
My feet rub against a whale's back.
It echoes ticklish squeaks.
We swim together.

My ears empty and sound returns
As I lift my head.
I'm surprised to be in my bathroom.
Since when am I not a mermaid?
